90th Purdue Pest Management Conference Recap
By Tom Mueller, CEO of Insects Limited. Inc.
Insects Limited is proud to have sent four members of our team to attend the 90th Annual Purdue Pest Management Conference, which was a true milestone event. That is nine decades of education, collaboration, and innovation within the pest management industry. The university did an outstanding job honoring the conference’s legacy while delivering a well-organized and engaging program, making this the best Purdue Pest Management Conference I have attended in at least ten years.
Insects Limited was very active throughout the conference this year. We provided a tradeshow booth where we connected with both current and prospective customers discussing the advantages of our monitoring and pheromone-based solutions. One particularly exciting outcome from these conversations includes future collaboration with another vendor of the tradeshow. We have the opportunity to utilize our lab capabilities to conduct validation studies to determine whether their product will be effective against Red-Legged Ham Beetles and other Stored Product Insects. This is one of many services that makes the Center for Stored Product Protection great.
In addition to the tradeshow, we were actively involved in the events surrounding the Pi Chi Omega business fraternity (If you haven’t joined yet, you should consider it. It is an amazing group).
I attended the Pi Chi Omega membership meeting, where newly elected President James Miller did an excellent job guiding members through recent fraternity updates and initiatives.
Pi Chi Omega also co-hosted a social event at Harry’s Chocolate Shop, further advancing our mission by bringing together students, faculty, and industry professionals. It was a relaxed, but rowdy event.
A well-organized hands-on learning session was another highlight of the conference, and another area we were proud to participate in two facets. Samantha Kiever, Research Entomologist and Product Support Specialist at Insects Limited, worked closely with Purdue University to provide attendees with an interactive learning experience focused on the behavior, biology, and distinguishing characteristics of stored product insects.
I also led a hands-on demonstration on pheromones, showing attendees how pheromones work and how they can serve as the foundation of effective, monitoring-based pest management programs.
One of the most meaningful moments of the conference was seeing Dave Mueller, founder of Insects Limited, recognized for his amazing 51 years of attendance at the Purdue Pest Management Conference. His commitment reflects both the importance of this conference and Insects Limited’s dedication to education, research, and industry collaboration.
Overall, the 90th anniversary conference was exceptionally well run and a great reminder of the value of coming together as an industry. We commend the organizing committee for a truly outstanding event.
